       Sociology of Constitution

Recent Activities:

The Working Group on Sociology of Constitution was created in 2014 starting from two groups of research: at the European University Institute (A.Febbrajo, W.Sadurski eds., Central and Eastern Europe after Transition, Ashgate, 2010) and at the University of Frankfurt, Cluster of Excellence Formation of Normative Orders (P.F. Kjaer, G.Teubner, A.Febbrajo eds., The Financial Crisis in Constitutional Perspective. The Dark Side of Functional Differentiation, Hart Publishing, 2011). It held its first session at the 2015 RCSL Annual Conference in Canoas, Brazil (5-8 May 2015).

This WG intends to emphasize and strengthen the emerging field of a Sociology of Constitutions and the analysis of societal constitutionalism with the aim of understanding constitutions not according to their traditional narrative but taking into consideration transnational connections and internal fragmentations of legal orders. The WG intends to organize workshops and meetings, and encourage research partnerships and collaborations.
